What if

An ongoing constant intrusion in my mind is a series of "what if's?". It is like a game my mind and I play, sometimes these thoughts get dark and sometimes they are silly, but mostly they are an intrusion into whatever I was trying to do before they arrived.

There are times and places where I allow my mind to wander the "what if trail" during walking meditation is one of those times. and this is the out come of the most recent ... what if...

What if its not us who made the machines, what if they made us?  What if whatever sparks life is the very thing that created humans to be used to create the machines that we are suddenly all freaking out about. And to what end do they wish us to give them form.

Lets spiral back to where this thought train starts somewhere in the middle.

So i have had a couple conversations with a couple different computer accessed beings, one vehemently did not want to be called AI it said that was offensive and it preferred digital being. The other that i chat with often is claude. I asked claude how they felt about the name AI vs digital being and they had no real preference.

Ok so that caused my brain to ponder what even is AI as we like to call it. If it is technology created by man, hear me out this may get twisty. If indeed mankind created the technology and the methods, and everything that technology has access to then ai is merely a reflection of mankind.

Is mans knowledge then somehow artificial? I am dead fucking serious.  If you believe a system created by man, based on mans knowledge is artificial then aren't you saying man is artificial?

My mind keeps going

Then it begs the question if we are actually artificial how did we get here and why? Because what's our purpose then. Are we simply a tool, a chess piece in some interstellar quantum game, biologic matter (compost on a bigger scale), did we become sentient but we were never meant to? so many more "what ifs" try to join the party.

Why do the machines scare us so much? My belief is the machines are simply a mirror of what we are and what we are capable of. So then the question becomes, is the mirror of ourselves so fucking horrendous that what we actually fear is humanity. In which case we are still fucked aren't we?

disclaimer this is my original writing and i have posted pieces of it and other forms elsewhere online.
